What Are You Waiting For?

What if you woke up tomorrow morning, and as you opened your eyes, knew that you were perfect just as you are? No more improvements to make, no more beating up on yourself for not living up to some ideal that you've placed on yourself, no more waiting for a future time when you think that you will be more complete and whole than you are right now? The real question is; What are you waiting for? What has the mind (the voice in your head) told you that you need to do before you can simply be who you already are?

We may notice that we often live in a constant state of 'waiting' for something better to happen in our lives; something more fulfilling, something more exciting, before we will allow ourselves to relax and actually enjoy who and what we already are. In this habitual state of 'waiting' for things to get better; a better relationship, a better job, a better understanding of spiritual truth; we delay our own joy and peace for a 'future' time when we think we will have everything figured out.

If you have lived long enough, you probably HAVE figured out that this 'waiting' for something better to happen never brings the happiness and fulfillment we long for, but only more frustration, unhappiness and an even greater sense that something is lacking in your life. Of course, what is 'missing' from our lives is the present moment, the fullness of life, here and now, as it is. In our constant reaching for a better future, we miss the beauty and fullness of this moment, and overlook the joy that is available here and now.

If peace and happiness are what we really want, then all we must do to have it, is fall in love with the present moment, as it is. No delays, no conditions, no demands, no more 'waiting'. Since this eternal moment is all we ever have, why not be here to enjoy it? What are you waiting for?
