Everything Happens Just For You

Though we may find ourselves dismayed over the things that unfold in our lives (and around us), it is good to remind ourselves from time to time that, everything that happens is the best possible thing that can happen. If we agree that everything is unfolding for our own awakening, then we begin to see that nothing happens 'to us', but is actually happening 'for us'. As in; teaching us valuable lessons that we need to learn so that we can be truly free and happy. Though we may not see it as it is occurring, how many times have we gone through challenging circumstances only to find that those same events turned out to be for our highest benefit a year or two later? The loss of a job that sucks our soul becomes the career we've always dreamed of, or the ending of an unhappy relationship leads us to a time of fruitful solitude where we learn to be happy alone.

We begin to see that everything that happens to us holds a blessing (or three) if we only have the eyes to see it. The key here is to first accept everything that shows up in your life as if you had chosen it, and then to look upon it as a gift with your name on it. After all, if you walk around projecting fear, then fearful experiences will show up for you on a regular basis. If you project Joy however, then Life will shower you with joyful events, and a heart so filled with Love that you simply won't know what to do with yourself. If you doubt this, here is a little practice you can do as an experiment for the next few days. Every hour or so, think of someone in your life; a friend, family member, or co-worker and say that persons name to yourself, followed by the words: "I wish you happiness, peace and joy." Then do it for at least one more person and see how you feel.

My prediction is that your own happiness, peace and joy levels will increase substantially. After you deepen in this practice for a few weeks, and feel more courageous, bring to mind someone you feel hostility, anger or hatred towards and say the phrase for them. Remember that even your 'enemies' are Buddha's in disguise! Through this simple, yet powerful practice, we shift our awareness off of our own fearful and unhappy thinking, and begin to send out love, compassion and kindness into the world around us. What we find is that we actually receive the same gifts in return. We also rise above the fearful thoughts that may be flying through our own minds and begin to see the truth that everything that happens is the best possible thing that can happen. Always.
