A Spontaneous Life of Joy

"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes.

Don't resist them - that only creates sorrow.

Let reality be reality.

Let things flow naturally forward

in whatever way they like."

Lao Tzu

Have you ever noticed how everything that happens in the eternal Present Moment, happens spontaneously, without any help from us? If you doubt this, take a moment right now and simply notice what is arising in your immediate experience. Notice the sounds, the scenery, and the thoughts that are arising in your mind. If you watch closely, you'll notice that EVERYTHING is happening, like magic, without YOU having to do anything to make it happen. Furthermore, if you are honest, you will also notice that you actually don't have any control over what appears in the unfolding Now. When we realize the truth, that everything is arising spontaneously in the Present Moment, and that we don't have any control over what appears, we begin to relax into the profound freedom that comes from letting go of our constant attempts to manipulate and resist the flow of Life (the Tao). We stop wasting our energy trying to resist things that are happening to us, and instead, put our energy into allowing Life to show us the best course of action to take.

This doesn't mean that we don't make plans or have goals for the future. It just means that we hold those plans very loosely, knowing that it is very likely that they will not go exactly as we wish. This letting go of our tendency to try and control every aspect of our life, often leads too many wonderful miracles occurring along the Way. If we allow ourselves to move spontaneously with Life, we may find ourselves going places and doing things that we never dreamed we would, and instead of trying to 'force' things to work out a certain way, we have the feeling of being 'led' to exactly where we need to be. If you look back, you may find that some of the most delightful experiences of your Life happened spontaneously, or 'out of the blue'; like when you're traveling and you suddenly find yourself going somewhere that's not on your itinerary, and end up having the best time of your entire trip.

Imagine living your whole life this way - open to whatever inspirations life brings you, and following those little God 'winks' that may tell you to start a new career, or call a friend you haven't spoken with in a long time, or try out a new restaurant that suddenly appears when you take a 'wrong' turn while going to the place where you've eaten every week for the past 10 years. Living a spontaneous life requires no plan, no forethought, and no worry. It is simply trusting, and following the intuitive promptings of the heart, as you travel the uncharted territory of the unknown in your day-to-day life. When you live this way, your days becomes full of joy and passion, and you learn to trust that the Universe is a friendly and safe place, that wants you to have a good time on this thrill ride called Life.
