All You Need Is Love

"There's nothing you can do that can't be done.

Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.

There's nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game. It's easy!

There's nothing you can know that isn't known.

Nothing you can see that isn't shown.

There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be. It's easy!

All You Need is Love.

There's nothing you can make that can't be made.

No one you can save that can't be saved.

There's nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you, in time. It's easy!

All you Need is Love"

The Beatles

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the 'Summer of Love' of 1967, a magical time, when a kaleidoscope of music, flower children, color, spirituality and creativity came together for one shining moment and helped lift human consciousness toward an all-encompassing Love and peace. Though it had it's excesses; namely in the use of mind-altering drugs that had a debilitating effect on some of those that used them, that extraordinary summer of 1967 began an exploration of human awareness that is still being felt today. As young people began to realize the limits of psychedelic drugs to expand consciousness, they began to look to the east; to meditation, yoga, Buddhism and other esoteric teachings as a way of finding the fulfillment and joy that they longed for.

Chief among these explorers of expanded awareness were the Beatles, who, in the fall of 1967, discovered the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and his technique of Transendental Meditation. Through the Beatles influence, many seekers (including myself), were introduced to the life-affirming practice of meditation and it's ability to center one in a state of peace and flow. In fact, the Beatles (namely John Lennon and Paul McCartney), wrote what was to become the anthem of that summer of 1967; All You Need is Love, a majestic tune that highlights the realization that only Love will ultimately give us what we are seeking.

And of course, they weren't speaking about romantic love, but about the Universal Love that is within, and around us. In that Love, John Lennon tells us, you find that , "there's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be." Of course, Lennon was just echoing what all of the world's spiritual masters have been telling us since the beginning of time; that the Love we crave is already fully within us, and all we need to do to be at peace is to re-discover it's Presence, and radiant it's light to everyone we meet. Though it's been 50 years since the Summer of Love, this simple message is as true today as it was all those years ago, "Love is all you need..."
