"Be content with what you have,
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize that nothings lacking,
the whole world belongs to you."
Tao Te Ching
With Thanksgiving approaching, this is a perfect time to pause and reflect upon all of the blessings and abundance that fill our lives. So often, our minds are filled with thoughts about what we don't have, thinking that if we only had it, we would then be happy. Yet as we all well know, the fulfillment of a long sought after desire rarely satisfies us for very long, and then it's on to the next thing.
Thanksgiving provides us with the opportunity however, if just for one day, to count our blessings and feel gratitude for what we already have. It gives us, as the Tao Te Ching points out, the opportunity to be 'content with what we have', and thus feel the joy and happiness that comes through that contentment. When we practice this kind of appreciation, we open the space for even more abundance to flow into our lives. This is cause for great celebration!
My wish for all of you this Thanksgiving, is that you recognize all of the gifts that already fill your life; and enjoy the happiness that arises from this simple realization. Why not take a moment right now and bring something into your heart that you feel grateful for. Say 'thank you' to the Tao (or God, or Source, or whatever other name you give the Ultimate Reality). The point is this: the more you say 'thank you' to the Tao for providing you with everything you need, the more blessings you will have to say 'thank you' for. Thank you Tao.
